Sit at home: Pandemonium in Enugu as gunmen terrorise citizens
Many Enugu residents on Wednesday have been forced to the safety of their homes, following attacks by armed men.
Residents had opened their businesses and offices in obedience to the State Governments order, to ignore what it described as an “illegal sit-at-home order” by a faction of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
The gunmen shot sporadically at major areas of the State capital including Agbani Rd, Abakpa, New Haven, New Artisan, Emene and Abakpa.
The gunmen, who had their faces covered with masks, were reported to have operated in a Siena vehicle, as well as tricycles.
Signature TV correspondent in Enugu reports that people were seen running helter-skelter for their dear lives as many parents, whose children were already in school, were seen in panic mode.
While some rushed to pick up their kids, others were making frantic calls to the school management to ensure their children’s safety.
As of the time of filing this report, a combined team of the Army and the Police are said to be on the chase of the gunmen.
A helicopter was also seen hovering around major parts of the State.
All the banks, other businesses and schools that earlier opened for the day’s activities have abruptly shut down.
