Sokoto uncovers ghost workers, job racketeers, saves N1.6bn

The Sokoto State Government has saved over N1.6bn as a result of its fishing out ghost workers and job racketeers.

The government said the exercise took place between October 2019 and May 2020, when over 1,370 ghost workers were uncovered.

This was revealed in a report presented to Governor Aminu Tambuwal by the committee on Harmonised Sokoto State Staff List at Governmrnt House on Thursday.

Receiving the report, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, directed that the same exercise should be conducted simultaneously on local government staff in Tambuwal, Kware and Sokoto North local government areas of the state.

Tambuwal said, “This exercises is intended to sanitise the salary system.”

This feat, he pointed out, had placed the  state among those leading system in the operation of automated payroll system in the country.
