SONUNTH 50TH ANNIVERSARY:Give back to Society to secure Nigeria’s future, successful Nigerians advised

Successful Nigerians have been asked to give back to society by investing in their alma maters, as such investment is the shortest way to build a new future for the country.
A member of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission, VinMartin Obiora Ilo, gave the advice at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of UNTH School of Nursing which kicked of in Enugu on Thursday.
Ilo who was Chairman at the occasion, called on Governments across the country to pay more attention to the education and growth of the youths as the future of the country depended on it, saying a situation where children stayed at home for months on account of avoidable strikes was suicidal for the nation.
The CEO of SignatureTV and APC House of Representatives elected candidate for Aninri / Awgu/ Oji-River Federal Constituency of Enugu State, warned that the country was at cross roads and a situation where majority of medical personnel especially nurses migrated outside the country in search of better paying jobs was destructive to the medical sector and well being of citizens.


He commended the School of Nursing, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (SONUTH) Alumni for their impactful assistance to the school and urged them not to relent.
In his address, the Chief Medical Director of UNTH, Dr Obinna Onodugo, represented by Dr Mrs Onodugo, promised to continue to collaborate with the management of the school and the Alumni Association to make the school a world class nursing institution.


The Provost of Edo State College of Nursing Sciences Benin and former President SONUNTH, USA Prof Patricia Ukaigwe praised the Alumni for their dedication and commitment, stressing that the task of taking the Nursing School to greater heights, needed the collaboration of all stakeholders.

Earlier in her address of welcome, the Principal of the school Dr Cordelia Ndubuka enumerated some challenges the school was facing to include upgrading the school to a college, inadequate hostels, Internet facilities, purchase of more anatomical models and many others.


She thanked UNTH Management and the Alumni for their support to the school and pledged the commitment of Management, staff and students to continue to excel.
The highpoint of the event was the induction of graduating students, capping of new students, cutting of the 50th Anniversary cake and presentation of wards to deserving individuals including , Prof C G Ugochukwu, Prof Patricia Ukaigwe and VinMartin Obiora Ilo
The 50th Anniversary celebration, which is also a homecoming for the Alumni will feature homecoming activities/ Cultural day on Friday, Medical Outreach/Dinner Party on Saturday, will end on Sunday with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Restoration, Enugu
