Southern Kaduna demonstrators protesting incessant killings, arrested in Kaduna.
Some youths of Southern Kaduna who came out en mass Saturday to demonstrate over the killings in the area have been arrested by the police.
The youths under the aegis of Southern Kaduna Youths Forum had called for simultaneous protests across Kaduna, Abuja and Lagos this weekend, to draw the attention of the federal government to the continued killings in Southern Kaduna.
The convener of the forum, Beevan Magoni, told Signaturetv.org correspondent that the police attempted to arrest the protesters at the popular refinery junction, but they were rebuffed by the youths.
According to him, large number of people gathered at the scene and the parents insisted that the police would not take their children and the officers eventually left.
But the Southern Kaduna Youths who also converge on the unity fountain for the Abuja protest this Saturday, were restricted to the venue as security operatives prevented from leaving the unity fountain.
However, the youths who displayed placards with various inscriptions, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently stop what they called “the massacre of the people of Southern Kaduna.
They maintained that the curfew imposed by the Kaduna State government is rather accelerating the killing of their people.
Magoni added that curfew as a security measure imposed by the state government on communities like Zangon Kataf local government has further encouraged the killers to target their victims in their enclaves, alleging there is usually no security presence at night to fight off the gunmen on killing spree.
The protesters alleged that in a recent attack, at least 19 lives were lost as gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked five communities in Zangon Kataf Local Government.
“The attacks took place despite the 24-hour curfew imposed by the Kaduna State government on Zangon Kataf, Kauru, Jama’a and Kaura Local Goverenment Areas to stop persistent attacks”
