SPAIN’S COAST GUARD RESCUES FIVE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN MIGRANTS OFF THE CANARY ISLANDS
Spain’s coast guard on Thursday said five hundred and sixteen migrants had been rescued overnight off the coast of the Canary Islands.
They were traveling from North Africa in five wooden boats and were taken by the coast guards to the islands of Tenerife, El Hierro and Gran Canaria.
At Gran Canaria’s port of Arguineguin, one hundred and fifty nine, including eight women, one hundred and fifty nine men and two children aged one and ten, disembarked and were attended by the Red Cross.
Compared to 2023, the Canary Islands has seen an increase in arrivals over the same period this year interior ministry data shows.
