President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on receiving the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Jonathan for his dedication to promoting peace and democracy.
The statement read, “The President states that Dr Jonathan’s winning the Sunhak Peace Award affirms his bold efforts in peacebuilding and promoting democracy in Africa and beyond.
“The President recalls the former President’s historic acceptance of the results of the 2015 presidential election and his peaceful handover of power to an opposition party, which bolstered the nation’s democratic profile.”
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for recognising individuals contributing to global peace and development.
The Sunhak Peace Prize was established in 2015 and is awarded biennially to individuals and organizations for their contributions to global peace and development. The award focuses on three areas: sustainable human development, conflict resolution, and environmental conservation.

Jonathan will receive the 2025 Founders’ Sunhak Peace Award in Seoul, South Korea, in recognition of his peacebuilding initiatives across Africa.
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s President from 2010 to 2015. His concession of the 2015 presidential election to the opposition flagbearer, Muhammadu Buhari, was widely regarded as a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
The Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation recognises individuals who advance peace through humanitarian work, sustainable development, and conflict resolution.
