Tinubu Shocks Wike, Says He Is On His Own On Federal Roads
President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu set the tone of his relationship with the states when he told Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike that the federal government under his leadership will not refund monies spent by the states to rehabilitate federal roads in their areas.
Tinubu, who was commissioning the 12th flyover built by the Rivers state government in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, told Wike that federal roads being rebuilt by Rivers state were being enjoyed by residents of the state and his administration will not refund money spent on such projects.
He however thanked the governor and the electorate in Rivers state for their support in the presidential election.
Wike had while welcoming Tinubu, blamed the challenge of uncompleted projects across the country on the procurement act which creates bottleneck in project execution.
He called for a review of the provision in the he act which pegs mobilization of contractors from 50 per cent to 70 per cent.
He had appealed to Tinubu to ensure that money spent by state governments to fix federal roads were refunded to help keep the states afloat.
The Rumuola-Rumuokwuta flyover which governor Nyesom Wike invited the president elect to commission is the 12th flyover being constructed by the Rivers State Government since 2015 as a means of reducing traffic congestion, encourage businesses to flourish and improve the aesthetics of the fast growing city of Port Harcourt.
