The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has described the revelations at the National Assembly probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission as a national disgrace.

It asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)  to ensure the case was not swept under the carpet.

Following the revelations,  the TUC President, Quadri Olaleye, said the union would mobilize a mass protest against the government and the institutions.

Olaleye in a statement on Saturday said the organized labour movement was disturbed by the corrupt activities going on at ministries, department, and agencies.

It vowed to call out members to “reclaim Nigeria from an insignificant few that have cornered its wealth to themselves and cronies.”

The statement read in part, “How could all these happen in a region without potable water, good schools and road network?

“How could NDDC spend N122.9m for condolences when there is no good hospital for the sick?

”Why should this happen in a region where governors are saying they do not have the financial strength to pay the new minimum wage? Yet, our leader, Muhammadu Buhari is celebrated worldwide as anti-corruption czar.”

The congress said it would  henceforth take serious action against certain government policies “because you cannot keep telling the people to tighten their belts while you loosen yours.”

The union flayed the hike in electricity tariff, Value Added Tax, and  Premium Motor Spirit.

“To this end, TUC is going ahead to mobilize the general public for a mass protest against the government and the institutions,” Olaleye stated.
