UNEC Student Nurses To Hold Health Awareness Grand Finale Feb 19
The grand finale of this year’s Health Awareness Programme organised by the School of Nursing Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, will hold on Thursday, the 19th of February, 2026.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Enugu North Local Government Headquarters, near Old Park, Enugu and will feature health talks and public enlightenment on key aspects of primary healthcare, including nutrition, breastfeeding, routine health checks, as well as dance and drama presentations aimed at driving the message home.
Speaking on the Morning Show on Signature TV, a student nurse at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Maryann Eze, said the annual programme is designed to raise awareness on the importance of primary healthcare in society.
Eze made a strong case for improved funding of primary healthcare centres across the country and the need for adequate facilities and personnel to enable the centres to effectively handle emergencies, rather than functioning merely as referral points.
She also advocated the inclusion of nutrition education in school curricula to expose pupils and students to proper dietary practices from an early stage.
Another student nurse and guest on the programme, Onyinyechi Akubue, emphasised that proper nutrition plays a critical role in overall health and urged individuals to pay closer attention to their dietary choices.
She further highlighted the importance of primary health centres in communities, describing them as the first point of contact during health challenges due to their accessibility to the people.
