UNFPA donates protective kits to Yobe State

The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, has donated some Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, to the Yobe State Government to support the State in the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Dr Homsuk Swomen, the UNFPA Programme Officer, on Monday in Damaturu, the state capital presented the items, which comprised 1,750 face masks, 2,000 long hand gloves, 800 pieces of short hand gloves and 193 hand sanitizers, among others.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Swomen said the UNFPA had also trained staff of the State Government in various fields to enhance their capacity.

He added that the UNFPA had been in the North East before the onset of insurgency, rendering support to the various State Governments in the area.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Government, the state commissioner for health, Dr Muhammed Gana,  represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Dantsuwa, described the gesture as timely.

“This donation made by the UNFPA is timely, particularly now that we are facing the scourge of COVID-19.

“We have been receiving donations from various partners, but this one is very essential,”  the Commissioner said.
