Nigerian Army speaks on Major-General Hassan Ahmed killed in Abuja

 

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of its former Provost Marshal, Major-General Hassan Ahmed, who was killed by gunmen on Wednesday night.

The death was announced in a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, on Friday in Abuja.

He corrected earlier reports that Ahmed’s wife was kidnapped, as a delegation paid her a condolence visit on Thursday.

It was Ahmed’s sister Safina who was kidnapped. They were both returning to Abuja from Okene.

Nwachukwu said the tragedy occurred when the senior officer’s vehicle was attacked by gunmen while transiting along Lokoja – Abuja road on Thursday. #

 

 

Federal Government declares July 20, 21 as holidays for Eid-el-Kabir

 

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday July 20 and Wednesday July 21, 2021, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulates all Muslim faithful and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the occasion.

The Minister while wishing Muslim faithfuls a happy Eid-el Kabir celebration, advised all Nigerians to take responsibility by reporting any suspicious individuals and criminal activities to law enforcement agencies, especially during this festival. #

 

 

Senate Approves FG’s $8.4bn, €490m External Borrowing Plan

 

The Senate on Thursday approved the Federal Government’s 2018-2020 external borrowing rolling plan of $8.3 billion and 490 million euros.

President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the National Assembly in May seeking the approval of the plan.

According to the President, the loan will be sourced from multilateral and bilateral institutions and the issuance of Eurobonds in the international capital market. #

 

Colombian Mercenaries Say They Were Hired To Capture Haiti Leader

Colombian mercenaries have been detained for allegedly taking part in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise say they were hired to capture him and hand him over to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, Colombia’s police said on Thursday.

Colombian intelligence agents are cooperating with Haitian authorities in investigating the July 7 murder of Moise.

Two Americans of Haitian descent and 26 Colombians took part in the operation at the president’s home in Port-au-Prince in which Moise’s wife Martine was shot and wounded. #

 

Fury Tests Positive for COVID, Wilder Fight Moved

Britain’s Tyson Fury has tested positive for Covid-19 and his heavyweight boxing title showdown with Deontay Wilder has been postponed from July 24 to October 9, promoters announced on Thursday.

The bout for Fury’s World Boxing Council crown will still be fought at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. #
