Buhari Meets Victims Of Kano Explosion, Says He Is Extremely Pained

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met with the families of victims of the Kano state explosion to express his condolences, describing the incident as a sad and unfortunate one.

The family members, accompanied by various community leaders, and residents in Sabon Gari Kano, including Chief Nicholas Ibekwe, the Eze Igbo, were assembled at the Palace of the Emir, where the President said he was extremely pained by the loss of lives and injury incurred in the explosion.

The state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, announced that the government will provide financial assistance to the affected families. ##

Adesina Says Africa Will ‘Feed Itself With Pride’ As AfDB Approves $1.5bn For Food Crisis

The Director, African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina has announced that the bank has approved a $1.5 billion emergency programme to alleviate the impact of worsening food insecurity due to the Ukraine war.

About 20 million farmers on the continent will benefit from the fund as Africa faces a shortage of at least 30 million metric tons of food, especially wheat, maize, and soybeans imported from Russia and Ukraine.

The programme aims to help produce 38 million tons of food. This will consist of 11 million tons of wheat, 18 million tons of maize, six million tons of rice and 2.5 million tons of soya beans. ##
