Elections: Nigerian Youths Not Ready To Take Their Destinies In Their Hands – Soyinka

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has faulted Nigerian youths for their inability to stake a claim in the country’s political arena.

He made the comment on Thursday during a press conference in Lagos, asking youths to build a formidable bloc to challenge the existing order.

Soyinka recalled that he was part of the move for youths to present a consensus candidate during the 2019 election but lamented that such did not materialize. 

 

Ayade: PDP to appeal High Court judgement

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State has said they will proceed to appeal the judgment delivered on Thursday by an Abuja High Court, in favour of Governor Ben Ayade.

In a statement released on Friday, signed by its Chairman, Vena Ikem, the party said it will pursue the matter up to the Supreme Court and will not rest until they get justice. 

 

Buhari Writes Reps, Seeks Approval of N4trn As Petrol Subsidy For 2022

President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking an increase in the provision for petrol subsidy for 2022 from N442 billion to N4 trillion. 

The Nigerian leader has therefore written to the House of Representatives for a review of the 2022 fiscal framework.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajamila, read the letter, titled Submission of the Revised 2022 Fiscal Framework during plenary on Thursday. 

Buhari in the letter dated April 5, cited the rising market price of crude oil heightened by the Russian-Ukraine war.

Troops Destroy 31 Illegal Refining Sites, Recover Over 12m Litres Of Diesel – DHQ

Troops of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed thirty-one illegal refining sites and also recovered over twelve million litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in different operations in Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states. 

The Director of Defence Media Operations Major General Bernard Onyeuko said this while addressing journalists on Thursday in Abuja.

According to him, troops discovered and destroyed 30 illegal refining sites, 37 reservoirs, 31 ovens, 12 large wooden boats, two cooling systems, three receivers, three storage pits, and metal drums. 

 

Friendly: Super Falcons Target Second Win Against Olympic Champions Canada

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will take on reigning women’s Olympic champions Canada in a doubleheader friendly game.

The first of the two friendly games coming up this Friday inside the BC Place stadium in Vancouver.

On Monday, both teams will square off again this time inside the Starlight Stadium in Victoria.

Reigning African champions, Falcons, are using the two games to prepare for this year’s CAF women’s AFCON in Morocco in July.
