Ukraine: FG To Begin Evacuation Of Nigerians From Wednesday – Onyeama
The Federal Government has announced that Air Peace and Max Air may begin the evacuation of Nigerians from Ukraine on Wednesday following the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, stated this on Monday during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Onyeama said with Ukraine still at war with Russia and a no-fly zone effective across the country, the evacuation is expected to take place from neighbouring countries.#
Parents Of Nigerian Students In Ukraine Protest At Russian Embassy
Parents of Nigerian students in Ukraine have protested at the Russian Embassy in Abuja, calling for peace in the Slavic nations.
The parents, who carried placards, echoed “Peace,” as they sued for a resolution between Ukraine and Russia.
Monday’s protest was triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Hundreds of people have fled the country since Vladimir Putin launched the attack on its neighbours.#
FG, JAMB, WAEC, Others Reject Creation Of Agency To Regulate Exam Bodies
The Ministry of Education, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, the West African Examination Council and other stakeholders on Monday rejected proposed legislation for the establishment of an agency to regulate examination bodies.
The stakeholders spoke in Abuja at a public hearing on a bill to establish the National Examination Management Commission, organized by the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education.
The bill was sponsored by Senator Kabir Barkiya.
Meanwhile the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyode described the bill as undesirable, retrogressive, waste of public funds and would cause more confusion as it would create duplication of duties.
COVID-19 Killed Over 3,000 Nigerians In 2 Years – NCDC
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said that Nigeria confirmed an excess of 250,000 coronavirus cases and recorded over 3,000 deaths within the last two years.
The NCDC, in a statement, said Nigeria had learnt major lessons in its bid to strengthen its health system to cope with other infectious diseases and future health emergencies.

Russia Expelled From World Cup As FIFA, UEFA Hand Down Bans
Fédération Internationale de Football Association FIFA) and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have announced that Russia has been expelled from the World Cup after being suspended from all international competitions until further notice,
The footballing governing bodies who announced this in a joint statement on Monday said it has also ended its partnership with Russian energy giant Gazprom.
The men’s team had been due to play in qualifying play-offs in March for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, while its women’s side had qualified for the European Championship in England, to be held in July.
The announcement also affects Russian clubs involved in European competitions. #
