Boko Haram Will End Within My Tenure, Says Zulum

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State is confident that the challenges posed by Boko Haram insurgency will end within the duration of his tenure which expires in 2023.

The governor stated this after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday where he appraised the president of progress regarding the surrendered insurgents. He disclosed that the surrendered terrorists, numbering 30,000, are a combination of Boko Haram and ISWAP members.

According to him, dealing with the insurgents would not only require kinetic measures but political solutions as well.

 

10 Killed, Several Injured in Katsina Trailer Accident

At least 10 people have been killed in a road crash involving a trailer in Katsina State, said the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The spokesman for the FRSC Command in Katsina, Abubakakar Usman, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Friday, said after an investigation conducted by the FRSC rescue team revealed that the driver was sleeping while the long vehicle was on motion, leading to the accident.

The trailer loaded with 18 passengers, unspecified number of cattle was said to have lost control and crashed on Thursday night at Gora village in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.

 

Two Policemen Shot Dead as Robbers Attack Bullion Van in Ibadan

Two policemen have been shot dead as armed robbers attacked a bullion van at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The attack which happened on Thursday, left people scampering for safety as the exchange of gunshots between the robbers and security agents attached to the bullion van lasted for some minutes. Commuters were forced to abandon their cars in the middle of the road as security operatives struggled to repel the attack.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who conducted an on-the-spot of the scene of the crime, confirmed that two policemen were killed. She, however, said that one of the robbers was also shot dead during the attack but the robbers made away with his body.

 

CBN Ends Forex Sales to Banks

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced plans to stop selling foreign currency (forex) US dollar, euro, pound sterling, among others to banks.

The apex bank had put Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) on notice that it will stop selling forex to them by the end of 2022.

This was stated by CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele at the Bankers’ Committee press briefing on Thursday, while announcing the introduction of what it called The RT200 Programme, the CBN said it was ripe for the banks to source for their forex by funding entrepreneurs with ideas, skills and support to make them responsive and attract foreign currencies to Nigeria.

 

FIFA Clears Leicester City’s Ademola Lookman To Play For Nigeria

Football governing body (FIFA) has cleared Leicester City’s Ademola Lookman to play for the Super Eagles, a move expected to booster the Nigerian team ahead of their 2022 World Cup playoff against rivals Ghana.

The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick wrote in a series of tweets following a meeting with former Watford forward Odion Ighalo, said I’m also glad to announce that the work we’ve put in has ensured that on-loan Leicester City winger, Ademola Lookman’s application to change his nationality and represent Nigeria has been approved by @FIFAcom.

The Leicester City forward represented England at the U19, U20, and U21 levels. He was a part of the English team that clinched the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017.
