COAS Host Government Agencies, call for continuous Partnership
In a bid to strengthen the Nigerian Army in its fight against insurgency, the Chief of Army Staff COAS, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru has called for continuous partnership with government agencies, private and public sector.
He made the call while playing host to the Chairman Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Buba Marwa, Director-General NationalAgency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Imaan Sulaiman, Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Air Vice Marshall E.O Alade and Director-General Nigerian Institute of Leather and ScienceTechnology, Professor M.K Yakubu.
The COAS who received the visitors at the Army Headquarters Abuja on Wednesday stressed the need for civil and military cooperation.
Rivers LG chairman regains freedom eight days after being kidnapped
The chairman of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, Philemon Kingoli, who was kidnapped on the 6th of April on the Peter Odili Road of Port Harcourt, has regained freedom eight days after being held, hostage.
The spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirming his rescue, said the victim had been taken to the hospital for medical attention and released to reunite with his family.
Omoni recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, had directed all the tactical commanders to move in immediately to ensure Kingoli’s release, adding that the directives received top compliance.
Rainstorm destroys 50 houses, electric poles in Kwara
On Thursday, barely 24 hours after fire gutted 30 shops in Oro, a rainstorm has destroyed a number of houses in Oro, Iludun Oro and Esie in Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State.
The rainstorm also pulled down electric poles, thus throwing the communities into darkness.
The areas affected in Oro include St. Andrews Church, Abegun compound, Balogun square, and it was learnt that the roof of a house belonging to a Shina Afolabi, done a day earlier, was blown off by the rainstorm.
24hours after arrest, Ex-Imo State Governor Okorocha remains in EFCC custody
Twenty-Four hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC arrested ex-Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, he is yet to be released.
Okorocha is facing questioning for various petitions, including a N7.9 billion Naira alleged fraud.
An EFCC source said as of Wednesday evening the Senator has not been admitted to bail because there are a lot of transactions that he ought to clarify.
EKSU lecturers to begin strike
The Academic workers at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) have threatened to begin a strike, following the expiration of their four weeks’ notice.
The ASUU Chairman, EKSU chapter, Dr. Kayode Arogundade, while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday said the strike will begin on April 22nd.
The lecturers said the industrial action was necessary to protest the alleged neglect of the university and its workers by the state government and the institution’s management. #
