Ten persons have been killed while 47 persons are said to have sustained injuries from the explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday evening.
Hospital officials where the affected persons were rushed to, confirmed the figures to Governor Babagana Zulum who was there to assess the situation.
Residents of the area were thrown into panic mode at about 7:00 pm when multiple sources reported gunshots and explosions near the Gomari area of the state.
This is the first attack on Maiduguri town in a long time and this may not be unconnected with the sustained onslaught on insurgents in the Sambisa axis of the state.
Nigeria’s Restructuring Should Be Based On Economic Viability, Says Adesina
The President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has opined that the restructuring of Nigeria should be driven by economic and financial viability, which he noted are necessary for political viability.
Adesina stated this while delivering a public lecture in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The public lecture titled ‘Toward a New Nigeria From Federal Fatherism to a Commonwealth’ was delivered virtually from the base of the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Adesina stressed the need to diversify the source of financing for states across Nigeria, noting that Nigerians in Diaspora remitted $24 billion in 2019, which accounted for half of the crude oil exports.
The AfDB President also called for a better way of supporting states in financing critical infrastructure.

COVID-19: Ghana To Receive World’s First Doses Of Free Covax Vaccines
Ghana is to receive the first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines from Covax, a global scheme to procure and distribute inoculations for free to poor countries this Wednesday.
UNICEF and the World Health Organization said in a joint statement that the 600,000 doses are part of an initial tranche of deliveries of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine licensed to the Serum Institute of India.
The West African nation has recorded 80,759 Covid-19 cases and 582 deaths since the start of the pandemic. These figures are believed to fall short of the real toll as the number of tests is low.
Frontline workers in Ghana are meant to be the first to receive the vaccine.
Tiger Woods ‘Recovering’ After Surgery Following Roll-Over Car Crash
Tiger Woods suffered serious injuries to both legs as his car flew off the road and flipped several times Tuesday near Los Angeles in a crash he was “very fortunate” to survive, law enforcement officials who found the U.S golf legend said.
Woods underwent surgery to repair “significant orthopedic injuries” to his lower right leg and ankle, which included the insertion of a rod into his tibia and the use of “a combination of screws and pins” to stabilize his foot and ankle, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center chief medical officer Anish Mahajan said in a statement released on Tuesday.
Woods did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the early-morning incident, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
No other vehicles or passengers were involved in the crash, which occurred on a steep stretch of road known as an accident “hotspot,” where Woods was travelling at “a greater speed than normal,” said the sheriff.
