Gunmen abduct female students in Kaduna
An unspecified number of female students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in the Mando in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been abducted by gunmen.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday.
It was learnt that most affected were female students as their male counterparts were not taken away.
The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing.
Also, the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, ASP, confirmed the attack, noting that it took place last night.
This is coming barely led than 48 hours after the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan presented the 2020 security situation reports to the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
Ugwuanyi pledges maximum support for new Service Chiefs
The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has pledged his administration’s continued support for the newly appointed Service Chiefs of the Nigerian Armed Forces to enable them successfully perform their duties of protecting the territorial integrity of the country and warding off external aggression.
Speaking during an interactive session between the new Service Chiefs and Stakeholders in Enugu State, held at the Government House, Enugu.
Governor Ugwuanyi represented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, expressed optimism that the engagement will deepen and strengthen the current synergy between the state government and the military over security matters.
The governor stressed that such synergy was responsible for the enviable rating of Enugu as one of the most peaceful and safest states in the country.
In his remarks, the Chief of Defence staff, General Irabor, who commended Governor Ugwuanyi for his hospitality and immeasurable support to the military, disclosed that they were in Enugu state to reach out to their troops in furtherance of their mandate to ensure peace and security of the country in keeping with the directives given to them by President Buhari.
Maina: Falana attends court, expresses readiness to testify
A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), on Thursday, appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja to testify as a defence witness in the trial of the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Falana, who was accompanied by some individuals, said that although he was not served any summons yet, he learnt about his invitation through the media so he decided to attend the court out of respect but stated the summons would afford him the opportunity for him to put an end to the needless controversy surrounding a property he never bought.
The court had, on March 8, at the instance of Maina’s lawyer, issued summons on a number of people, including Falana, Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) and a former acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, to appear in court between March 9 and 11 to testify as Maina’s witness.
Justice Abang has adjourned further proceedings till March 17 for the summoned witnesses to appear.
Nigerian government increases fuel price to N212 per liter
The Federal Government has officially confirmed the return of fuel subsidy, as the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, yesterday, fixed the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, at N212.61 per litre, for the month of March.
The new price, according to the PPPRA’s PMS guiding price, released to stakeholders, is supposed to commence from March 1st and run till March 31st, 2021.
However, the fact that the price of the commodity is still been sold at an average of N170 in petrol stations across the country, meant that the Federal Government, through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC is spending an average of N42 to subsidise a litre of the commodity for Nigerians.
The PPPRA confirmed that fuel subsidy actually officially returned in February 2021, as according to the downstream oil sector regulator, the actual pump price of PMS for February was between N183.74 and N186.74 per litre, meaning that the Federal Government paid an average of N16 per litre for PMS in the month.
COVID-19: Sanwo-Olu Explains Why He Is Yet to Receive Vaccine
The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has disclosed that he is yet to receive doses of the COVID-19 vaccine because of the rule that stated that health workers should take first.
Lagos State, which has recorded the highest number of positive COVID-19 cases, had since taken delivery of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Speaking during the virtual official unveiling of a tertiary health centre in Lekki, Lagos on Thursday, the governor said he would receive doses of the vaccine on Friday.
He also revealed that Lagos State spent billions of naira in 2020 on procurement of health equipment, adding that the equipment is on the way.
