No going back on ban on open grazing ban― Akeredolu

The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, says there is no going back on the ban on open grazing in the state.

The Governor said the law will be enforced when finally put in place on Monday during the visit of the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of zone 17 in Akure, Ondo state capital, Ene Okon, to his office.

Akeredolu who appreciated the Police boss explained that Amotekun is not established to compete with other security agencies but to complement the existing security agencies. 

Bandits set petrol tanker on fire, attack other vehicles in Zamfara State

Suspected armed bandits have opened fire on a tanker carrying premium motor spirit known as petrol and a Canter Mitsubishi vehicle, in Dansadau area in Maru local government area of Zamfara State.

An Eye witnesses said the tanker and vehicle were attacked along the old military check points close to Yargaladima village, where the tanker was conveying the product to a filling station in the area.

The driver and two others in the vehicle escaped to the bush while some of the passengers sustained injuries during the incident and had to trek to reach their destination in Dansadau.

Efforts to speak to police Authorities in Zamfara yielded no result as the Spokesperson of the command Superintendent Shehu Mohammed is not responding to phone calls. 

Court Restrains Secondus From Acting as PDP National Chairman

A High Court in Rivers State has granted an interim order restraining Uche Secondus from parading or acting as the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Okogbule Gbasam of the Degema Division of the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt gave the order on Monday.

The order of the vacation court follows a motion ex parte which was filed by four persons namely: Ibeawuchi Alex, Dennis Amadi, Emmanuel Stephen, and Umeziriki Onucha.

According to documents signed by the Assistant Chief Registrar (Litigation) of the court, Patricia Victor-Nwoka, Justice Gbasam also ordered Secondus to stop parading himself as a member of the PDP. 

938 Dead as Cholera Ravages 22 States, FCT

The Minister of Environment, Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, said Nigeria has so far, recorded 33,661 cases of cholera in 22 states across the country, leading to the death of not less than 938 persons.

Addressing newsmen on the cholera outbreak in Nigeria, in Abuja on Monday, the minister said it has become urgent to sensitize the general public on the outbreak and efforts made by the ministry to contain the scourge.

He said the latest situation report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) showed that the disease has spread to 22 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and said as part of efforts to combat the diseases, the ministry would be flagging off the National Environmental Sanitation Response Intervention to Cholera Outbreak in Kubwa, Abuja which is currently the epi-centre in the FCT.

The minister, therefore, charged state and local governments and other stakeholders to step up their sanitation and hygiene programmes and activities to curb the spread of the diseases.

Lucy Ejike, 21 Others in Medal Chase as Paralympics Games Begin Today

The much-awaited paralympic games are set to begin as the opening ceremonies commence on Tuesday.

Twenty-two athletes will be representing Team Nigeria in the Tokyo 2020 games this year.

In Tokyo, Team Nigeria Paralympians will participate in four events: Para Powerlifting, Para-Athletics, Para-Table Tennis and Para-Rowing.

The team captain, Lucy Ejike (44) who would be featuring in her sixth Paralympics after making her debut at Sydney 2000, has promised that the contingent would surpass the record at Rio 2016.
