Bauchi removes 1,115 ghost workers, saves over N763m

The Bauchi State Government says it has saved a total sum of N763,792,664 after 1,115 ghost workers were removed from its payroll.

The Bauchi State Government stated this when the chairman of a panel set up on March 23rd, 2021, to find a lasting solution to the challenges of salary payment in the state public service, Baba Tela, Deputy Governor, Bauchi State, submitted its report to Governor Bala Mohammed at the Government House on Thursday.

In a speech shortly after receiving the report, Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, said that the setting up of the Panel was to bring a lasting solution to the problems facing the payment of salaries and pensions in the state. 

Okowa swears in 11 more commissioners

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Thursday swore in 11 more commissioners to conclude the process of reconstituting his cabinet following its dissolution in May.

Okowa who said that the appointees emerged through a rigorous selection process, charged the new commissioners to promote unity in their utterances and actions and shun mutual suspicion, adding that they should avoid issues that would breed distrust, exclusion and resentment among the people of the state.

While congratulating them on their new appointment, Okowa noted that the state was breaking the frontiers of female representation in government with the appointment of seven female commissioners and 17 vice chairmen of local councils.

Responding on behalf of the new commissioners, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, thanked God for the appointment and appreciated the governor for finding them worthy to serve. 

Zamfara Assembly confirms receipt of deputy Gov’s letter, denies impeachment plan

The Zamfara state deputy governor, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau has described his impeachment plan by the state House of Assembly as improper, indecorous and inappropriate.

The Deputy Governor said the move by the state Assembly is illegal as a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the state Assembly to Suspend any move of impeachment against him.

Gusau also said that despite the foregoing state of affairs, the Zamfara state Assembly has embarked on steps and actions to overreach the pending suit by scheduling a sitting to proceed with impeachment proceedings on Thursday.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain on Thursday appraised the war against different forms of terrorism in Nigeria and agreed that the judicial process is allowed to run its course.

Holding bilateral talks at the sidelines of the Global Education Summit in London, the two leaders said it was important that the judicial process runs without interference, no matter who was involved.

President Buhari briefed the Prime Minister on Nigeria’s power needs and efforts being made, as well as initiatives geared at achieving food security, and also reviewed the security situation in the different regions of the country, while PM Johnson pledged Britain’s preparedness to lend a helping hand, with the prime minister stating their availability to help. 

Akwa Ibom High Court Sentences 27-year-old man to Death

An Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo, the state capital on Thursday convicted a 27-year-old man, one Sylvester Emmanuel Ime, to death for armed robbery.

Ime was found guilty of robbing Dam Dave Company, located on Idoro Road, Uyo, in the company of five others now at large, who attacked security men at the premises, carting away two Mack trucks, worth N7 million on December 18, 2016.

The court commended the State Prosecution Counsel, Esther Etim for her industry and resourcefulness, stressing that the state has proved the case beyond reasonable doubts.
