Igboho returns to court Friday, wife freed

Ropo, the wife of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho has been freed by Cour D’Appel De Cotonou, Benin Republic.

But unfortunately, her husband wasn’t lucky enough, as he will be returning to the court on Friday in continuation of the case filed against him by the Beninese authority.

It is believed that Igboho is being tried for forgery of Benin Republic passport which he wanted to use to travel out of the country before he was arrested, and his wife, Ropo, who is a German citizen and was travelling with her German passport, was released because there was no case against her.

Igboho was returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic after the case against him was adjourned by the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou till Friday, July 23, 2021. 

Six Super Tucano Aircraft from US Arrive in Nigeria

The Nigerian Air Force says the first batch of six Super Tucano aircraft has arrived in the country from the United States.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the aircraft were received in Kano by the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd), Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao. 

Fake customs officer bags 20-year imprisonment for job fraud

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, sentenced a 34-year-old man, Yakubu Afolayan, to 20 years’ imprisonment for impersonation and job scam.

Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar convicted Afolayan on the four counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He paraded himself as a customs officer and fraudulently swindled several unsuspecting job seekers under the guise of helping them to secure employment into the Nigeria Customs Service before the long arm of the law caught up with him. 

Hospital sacks doctors for abandoning duty

The Chief Medical Director, Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Dr Shedrack Offiah, has said the management has sacked six doctors for abandoning duty after collecting salary.

He spoke on Thursday in an interview while listing the steps taken to deter ABSUTH doctors who use government time to work in their private hospitals.

Offiah said he sacked the doctors to discourage absentee workers who do not work but collect salary, adding that such are ghost workers and should be treated as such.

The Chairman, National Association of Resident Doctors, ABSUTH chapter, Dr Nnamdi Erondu, said the body was only interested in finding a solution to the quagmire ABSUTH had found itself and not fighting the management.
