Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued fresh guidelines for church services and other religious programmes, due to the emergencies of second wave of COVID-19 across the country. The Association, in a statement released in Abuja, yesterday, said the new guidelines was in line with the advisory of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Christian Association of Nigeria General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, who signed the statement, said that changes to the earlier guidelines became necessary following the significant rise in daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 He said churches must ensure adequate ventilation in halls of worship. Windows and doors must be fully opened for air to circulate in and out freely, and possibly avoid the use of air conditioners. The Senate on Monday declined comments on the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari, to ignore its resolution against the sacking of Dr Nasiru Argungu, as the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment. The Presidency on Monday announced that the President had approved the appointment of Abubakar Fikpo as the acting Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment pending the appointment of a substantive DG. But the spokesperson for the red chamber, Senator Ajibola Basiru, declined comments on the matter when contacted on Monday. A Director with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ayo Olowonihi, has been appointed as the Commandant of the EFCC Academy Olowonihi, who was on Grade Level 17 was suspended by the then acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, in 2015, and demoted to Grade 16 in 2017. Olowonihi said Magu had on November 19, 2015, summoned him to his office accusing him of being behind some damning online publications on the activities of the commission and against the person of the chairman. The EFCC director won his case in court on February 26, 2019, but the EFCC under the leadership of Magu, filed an appeal. The Court of Appeal in August 2020 affirmed the ruling of the lower court, but by then, Magu had been suspended indefinitely by President, Muhammadu Buhari The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, on Monday said Nigeria had more facility to store the 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine being expected late January or early February. Shuaib made the clarification at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja. He said the first set of vaccine expected in the country is the Pfizer Biotech vaccine and the equipment required to store them are available at the National Strategic Cold Store of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency. While encouraging all Nigerians to get vaccinated when vaccines become accessible, Shuaib said, the chances of spreading the disease are significantly reduced when community members are vaccinated.
