Police nab more suspects in Ataga’s murder
Lagos State Police Command has arrested more suspects in connection with the murder of the CEO of SuperTV, Michael Usifo Ataga.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, announced this on Wednesday, during a media briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Ikeja.
He dismissed claims that the Police was giving the prime suspect, Chidinma Ojukwu, a soft landing.
Odumosu stated that the 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos was still a suspect with her rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Nigeria while assuring the public that the Police would not compromise on the case.
Ohanaeze enraged over killing of Igbo traders in Lagos, sets up committee
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, OYC, has expressed outrage over the alleged killing of about four Igbo traders in Lagos.
It was earlier reported that there was a fracas in the Ladipo Market of Lagos State when armed military men stormed the market and had a confrontation with Igbo traders.
In a statement made available on Thursday, the OYC President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike described the incident as highly provocative and stated that a committee, headed by the Secretary-General of OYC, Comrade Obinna Achuonye, with the Coordinator of OYC in Lagos, as secretary has already been set up, with responsibilities being to investigate further and furnish the OYC with details of the incident, lives lost, properties destroyed and looted, among other things, as well as the involvement of the military officers.
Abuja Clean up: FCTA says Mpape, Dutse, Ushafa next
The Chairman, FCT Ministerial Committee on City Sanitation, Ikharo Attah, has sent a strong warning to those residing in illegal structures within Mpape, Dutse Makaranta, Ushafa and other areas to either move out or comply, adding that they were next in line for cleanup exercises.
He stated this on Wednesday when personnel of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) made a return to the Iddo Sarki community and levelled 473 illegal structures.
Over the weekend, the FCTA had pulled down no fewer than 137 illegal structures, ranging from blocks of hostels, hotels and others around the Gwagwalada axis.
COVID-19 Third Wave: UNILAG Asks Students to Vacate Hostels
The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has ordered students to vacate hostels on campus over fears of COVID-19.
There were fears in the university community on Tuesday after a number of students contracted the disease and this development led the school management after an emergency Senate meeting on Wednesday to approve the vacation of all halls of residence by students by 12.00 pm on Thursday indefinitely, stating that lectures for the rest of the semester will continue to be delivered virtually
with effect from 26th July 2021.
Tax credit: FEC awards N309.9bn road contracts to Dangote
The Federal Executive Council approved the award of a contract to Dangote Industries for the construction of five roads totalling two hundred and seventy-four-point nine kilometres at the cost of three hundred and nine point nine billion naira to be advanced to the company as tax credit.
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
Fashola explained that the award of the contract to Dangote Group was consistent with funding options and that the road contract, which was the second approved for his ministry by the council, would be implemented on concrete and would be the largest of such projects in the country.
