A group of human rights lawyers and activists has expressed outrage over the comment by the FCT minister Nyesom Wike about the minority Ijaw ethnic group in Rivers state.
The group which addressed the media in Abuja on Monday, said the minister was creating conditions for violence in Rivers state.
The Activists expressed concerns that the minister’s comment was a recipe for violence and the escalation of tensions between ethnic groups.
They said whatever political dispute the Minister has with Governor Siminalayi Fubara should be sorted out without disrespecting the Ijaw Nation and drawing lines of ethnic division in the state.
The group called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s urgent intervention to address the situation and prevent any escalation.
They paid glowing tribute to the Ijaw Nation, acknowledged their courageous struggles and their unwavering commitment to the emancipation of the Niger Delta region.

The group has given the FCT Minister 72 hours to apologize to the Ijaw nation failing which they will escalate the issue.
Among those in the group were Deji Adeyanju, Maxwell Opara Abubakar Marshall and Nonso Obasi.
