The Minister of Agriculture Alh. Muhammad Sabo Nanono, Says Nigeria is now Africa’s largest producer of rice and the world’s largest producer of cassava
The Minister who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday while briefing the press on the occasion of the World Food Day.
“Nigeria has increased its strategic grain stock to 109,657 Metric Tonnes”. The minister then said, the federal government would have reached 219,900 Metric Tonnes of reserve by the end of 2020.
Even as the minister’s statistics and positive outlook of Nigeria’s Agriculture sector contradict the country borrowing grains from the West African Grains reserve, the minister insisted that the federal government’s agriculture policies are yielding positive results.
The World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16 to create awareness of issues of food security.
