WRAPA Calls For Speedy Trials For Gender-based Violence – Watch Video
The Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, WRAPA, has urged the judiciary to fast-track the prosecution of cases involving violence against women and girls.
The Senior Programme Officer of WRAPA, Habiba Ahmed, made the call while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of a dialogue on ending Violence Against Women and Girls in Abuja.
The Senior Programme Officer of Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative, WRAPA, Habiba Ahmed said prompt prosecution of offenders would not only ensure justice for victims of violence but also serve as a strong warning to perpetrators.
According to her, Domestic violence against men and women is an issue which the states, the government, policy makers and families should collectively address.
Also speaking to Newsmen, Lead Consultant at the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Solomon Agbonhulu, advocated for a blend of faith-based and legal approaches in tackling violence against women and girls.
He traced the root causes violence to poverty, lack of education and economic over dependence.
