15th Sunday: Being a Good Samaritan is what it means to be a Good Christian

Fr Stan Chu Ilo teaches in this homily that being a good Samaritan is what it means to be a good Christian.

He invites everyone to embrace the three steps of the Good Samaritan, namely: (1) change the way you see people and see everyone as family; (2) be moved to compassion in the face of human suffering and vulnerability by putting yourself in other people’s shoes; (3) Don’t simply feel pity for those who suffer, do something to alleviate their suffering, make some sacrifice to help lift the fallen.

He identifies the parable of the Good Samaritan as a commentary on the life of Jesus, the one who came down from heaven, stepped into the chaos and wounds of our humanity, and brought us to the inn, the Church–the field hospital as Pope Francis calls it, where everyone should find healing, comfort, and love.

Being a good Samaritan thus means becoming another Jesus to everyone especially those wounded on the roadsides of life.
