2027: I’d Have Declined If Tinubu Had Offered Me Campaign DG — Wike
Following the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he would have declined to be the director-general of the group if President Tinubu had offered him the position.
Wike stated this during the inspection of some ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, including the 13-kilometre Apo-Karshi Road and 14-kilometre Bwari to Kubwa Road on Saturday.
According to the minister, those who have held the position in previous elections have failed to deliver their states during the presidential elections and, as such, he is not interested but rather focused on winning Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory for President Bola Tinubu.
He further stated that there is no fulfilment in working in the council when one cannot even deliver his state during the day of reckoning.
He, however, pledged that the rainbow coalition is in full activation mode and would work in their capacity to ensure the re-election of the President.
President Tinubu on Saturday constituted the APC Presidential Campaign Council, appointing former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as Secretary.
The composition of the council was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as chairman and vice chairman of the council.
Tinubu will work with a body of advisers comprising Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abass, and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State were assigned as deputy director-generals for the campaign in the south and the north, and will work with Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Senator Jibril Barau in the two zones.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole will serve as deputy director-general in charge of mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff will serve as deputy director-general for administration.
A federal lawmaker, James Faleke, who played a pivotal role in the 2022/2023 campaign, returns as deputy director-general for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
He will work with zonal directors, with Senator Olushola Adeyeye in the South West, Ngozi Olejeme in the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife in the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe in the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso in the North-Central, and Senator Sani Danladi in the North-East.
