Former Imo NBA chairman killed in Owerri

A former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Imo state, Ndionyema Nwankwo, 64 years, from Arochukwu, Abia State was gruesomely murdered in his office at School Road, Owerri on Saturday.

According to a statement released by the Secretary of Nigeria Bar Association, Chinedu Agu, revealed that the late lawyer had left home since Saturday and could not return which made his family members become curious.

However, Agu further stated that an office mate of Nwankwo, Ishmael Nkwocha, went to check on Nwankwo in his office, unfortunately, met the entrance door locked.
Agu stressed that on closer observation, Nwankwo appeared to have been gruesomely macheted by his assailant, following cuts seen on his neck which he said was almost being severed from his head.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Mohammed, in a statement by the State Police Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Ikeokwu, said the matter was being investigated.

 

Alleged inciteful preaching: MURIC commends Kano Govt for banning cleric

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has commended the Kano State Government for banning an Islamic Scholar Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabarah for alleged inciteful preaching.

The commendation is contained in a statement issued by the Director of MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola.
The action of the Kano state government is necessary to prevent any breakdown of law and order, occasioned by the comments and actions of the Islamic Scholar.
The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, who announced the order, said that the government considered the cleric’s mode of teachings as provocative.
Garba also announced the immediate closure of all schools run by the cleric, pending investigations by security agencies.

 

Entrepreneur lauds Gov. El-Rufai’s strides in education, infrastructure

An entrepreneur, Mr. Adeyemo Popoola, has lauded the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-rufai, for the giant strides achieved in the state’s education and infrastructural development.
Popoola, speaking on the sidelines of a business dinner in an interview on Sunday in Lagos, said the achievements of the governor were highly commendable and worthy of emulation.
According to him, the ongoing massive infrastructural project at the Kaduna State University (KASU) permanent site, situated in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area of the State, would take the state to an enviable height.
This, he said, was because of the attendant ripple impact of infrastructural development on the business community for engendered economic recovery, particularly, post COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Popoola appealed to the state government to put more energy and resources to ensure the completion of the on-going projects.

 

4. Kidnappers on rampage in Abuja
Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have raised the alarm over rising cases of coordinated kidnappings in the Territory, despite the presence of over 15 security-related agencies.

Many residents who spoke on the rising cases, also wondered why the FCT Administration has not summoned a town hall meeting to liaise with community leaders, estate owners and various vigilante groups on how to tackle the menace.
They argued that the FCT has the nomenclature of a State and called on the two FCT ministers to rise up to the occasion or be booted out by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In recent weeks, over 50 persons have been kidnapped in Abuja, according to security sources. Security sources listed Kuje, Kubwa, Bwari, Apo/Lokogoma, Gwarinpa and some undisclosed parts of the metropolis as epicentres of abductions.

5. Anambra guber ’ll be fight to finish –Ngige

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has said the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State will be fight to finish.
Ngige said no stone would be left unturned to ensure All Progressives Congress (APC) takes over and occupies the seat of power in the state.
He said Willie Obiano would be the last governor to rule Anambra State on the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) platform.
The minister said APC would install Obiano’s successor; adding that his party would use every instrument at its disposal to wrestle power from APGA in November.
Ngige, who is the APC leader in Anambra, stated this at the weekend during an interactive session between the party stakeholders and members of the registration and revalidation committee in Awka, the state capital.
The former Anambra governor said successive APGA administration in the state had failed to provide good governance for the people; adding that quality leadership ended in 2006 when he left office.
