Minister of Labour, Ngige says Biafra agitators have been brainwashed  

 

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, says Biafra would not bring an end to unemployment and economic challenges in the South East region.

Reacting to the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in the Southeast, he said that the separatist group had brainwashed the people into believing such a notion.

Ngige while speaking on Sunday at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Association of Eze Ndigbo in the 19 Northern States and Abuja stressed that the Nigerian government was working towards resolving unemployment and economic challenges in the country.

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu has been at the forefront of the agitation for Biafra. #

 

Abia govt tells group to shelve state’s mega rally

 

The Abia State Government has called on the organizers a proposed mega protest to immediately cancel the program in view of the prevailing security situation in the region.

 

The state government in a statement issued by the Secretary to State Government, Barr Chris Ezem, said this in reaction to a plan by a civil society group to stage a mega protest in Aba and Umuahia, the state capital on Monday.

The statement noted that the protest may not be peaceful as the organizers failed to contact the state’s police command for protection. #

 

Nigeria records lowest COVID-19 cases in 12 months

 

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said Nigeria recorded only seven new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

It was the lowest daily figure recorded since 15th April 2020 when the country registered 11 cases.

The NCDC in an update posted on its website on Monday morning said the new cases raised the country’s total tally to 167,066.

The seven new cases were reported from Lagos, Kwara and Rivers states. #

Bandits Kidnap Family Of Eight, Four Others In Zaria

 

Kidnappers have abducted a family of eight and four others in the Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The latest attack comes barely 48 hours after bandits attacked Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic also in Zaria, kidnapping eight students and two lecturers, as well as shooting another student to death.

Eyewitnesses said the bandits who were in large numbers, invaded the Kofar Gayan area of Zaria city in the early hours of Sunday when the residents were still sleeping and attacked some houses, where they abducted eight family members.

The Kaduna State police command through its spokesman, Mohammed Jalige confirmed the incident to newsmen. #

 

National trials, invitational relays to hold between June 16th and June 21st-AFN

 

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria says the AFN 2021 National Championships and Invitational Relays will be held in the Yaba College of Technology Sports venue in Yaba, Lagos, between Wednesday, June 16th and Monday, June 21st, 2021.

This year’s National Championships, according to AFN Secretary General Prince Adeniyi Adisa Beyioku, would be utilized as selection trials to choose Nigeria’s delegation for the postponed XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo, which will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

The National Championships is the flagship event of the AFN where the nation’s top athletes will converge to compete for honours and qualifications for major Championships and Games. #
