Police secure release of 12 Kidnap victims in Zamfara
Police in Zamfara have again secured the release of eleven kidnap victims without ransom, the victims are made up of eight men, three women.
The victims who had been in captivity for six days were abducted at Yarkofoji village in Bakura local government area of Zamfara state. Among them is the Chief Security Officer of the College of Health Technology, Tsafe who was whisked away at his residence when the armed men invaded his house.
The rescue of the eleven kidnap victims is coming hours after abductors of the Bakura students and staff of the college of Agriculture and Animal Science release a video of threat to kill them if ransom is not paid within twenty-four hours
A press statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Superintendent Shehu Mohammed says they were rescued without ransom through the effort of troops. He added that the rescued victims have been medically checked, debriefed and reunited with their families. #
APC announces dates for congress, sales of forms
The All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced September 4, 2021, for its local government area Congresses.
This was disclosed by Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, Secretary of APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) on Wednesday, in Abuja, who said Nomination forms for the position of LG chairman will cost N25,000, LG vice chairman, secretary and treasurer will cost N15,000.
Akpanudoedehe, in a statement, said the purchase of forms for wards, local government areas and state congresses would begin from August 18 to 28, and screening of prospective aspirants would be from August 31st to September 2nd.
The APC spokesman said local government congresses, including three-man delegates for the party’s National Convention, would be on September 4th, while appeals arising from the congresses would be from Sept. 6 to 11.
The APC scribe noted that forms for other party offices would cost N10, 000, adding that female and physically challenged aspirants would pay 50 per cent of the fees for each position. #
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria Lost $50bn in 10 Years Due to Uncertainty Over Petroleum Industry
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja said Nigeria lost an estimated $50billion worth of investments in 10 years.
This, according to him, as a result of the uncertainty of the non-passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), lack of progress and stagnation in the petroleum industry.
In his remarks at a ceremony on passage of the PIA, which preceded the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the President said the stagnation affected the growth of the economy, citing lack of political will on the part of past administrations to actualize the needed transformation.
President Buhari said assent of the Petroleum Industry Bill on August 16, 2021, marked the end of decades of uncertainty and under-investment in the petroleum industry.
COVID-19: Nigeria records 1,149 new cases, highest in over one year
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has recorded 1,149 new cases of coronavirus, the highest number of infections in any single day since February 2020.
It said the 1,149 new cases were reported from 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory. With the latest figure, the total number of infections in Nigeria now stands at 184,593
The NCDC, which disclosed this on its official website handle on Thursday morning, said the 1,149 include the 393 reported from Lagos on Tuesday.
The new infections were an increase from the 357 cases reported on Tuesday.
According to the NCDC, the surge is driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant and the low vaccination rate in the country.
Sports Minister Congratulates Nigeria Mixed Relay Team on Historic Win
The Minister for Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has lauded Nigeria’s 4x400m mixed relay team for their historic feat at the ongoing World Athletics U-20 Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
The winning team, comprised of Johnson Nnamani, Imaobong Nse Uko, Opeyemi Oke, and Bamidele Ajayi, set a 3:19.70 African and Championship record to become the first winners of the event at the championship.
It was also Nigeria’s first medal in the championship which began on Wednesday in Kenya. The delighted Sports Minister advised the athletics body to take the victory as a springboard in restoring the country’s past glory.
