Edo Election: CDD Calls For Extended Voting Hours
As the Edo governorship election approaches, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to put in place a mechanism for quick response to challenges that may emerge from the process.
At a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, CDD said from its observations and interviews, the three senatorial districts of the state might go violent in the cause of the election.
CDD also condemned the pressure on party members to deliver their polling units 100% at all cost, which it says encourages rigging, buying and selling of votes and other electoral vices.
Lamenting the conduct of the recently conducted election in Kano, Nasarawa, Kogi and Bayelsa elections, the centre says the conduct of the Edo election will go a long way in proving the ability of the current government to run a credible election.
The Nigerian pro-democracy think tank also called on INEC to extend voting hours in the Edo election to enable voters to observe the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing.
The Briefing which provided key perspectives and data-driven insight about the electoral process encourages voters to go out to exercise their franchise
The Edo Governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 19.
