Homily for the Ascension: You shall be my witnesses
Fr Stan Chu Ilo in this homily reflects on the spiritual meaning of the Ascension of the Lord. The Ascension signifies the successful completion of the mission of Jesus on earth.
In celebrating this feast, faith invites us to embrace the truth that if we follow Jesus, we too will accomplish our mission in life like the Lord and enter into his glory.
It is hard to be a good Christian in our times against the new idols of guns, violence, power, nationalism, racism, intolerance, abuse of the vulnerable and the innocent, false religious practices, wealth, and status eating away the hearts of so many.
The Ascension, however, reminds us of what really matters in life and that heaven is our destiny. May you live like Jesus in self-sacrificing love and be united with the Lord in life and in eternity.
