As Nigeria commemorate the rest of the world to celebrate the 2023 Menstrual Hygiene Day, a non-governmental organization has decided to take the Hygiene Awareness Campaign to Secondary School Girls in Abuja.

The group, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, will on Thursday, May 25, 2023, implement the Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign and Distribution of Sanitary Pads to Government Junior Secondary School, Jabi, Abuja.

Over 300 adolescent girls and boys are targeted by the group to gain practical insights into the management of menstruation and healthy menstrual hygiene practices.

Speaking to Newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, the leader of the group, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, Chibuzo Okereke said the project would target young adolescent girls and boys between the ages of 14 to 15 years who are about to or have just started experiencing menstrual bleeding and other changes in their body system.

He further highlighted the project rationale, planned program of activities and expected impact of the project, noting that the campaign also coincides with International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023 being celebrated under the theme: “Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life by 2030.”

“According to the group, the expectation is that participants at the end of the campaign would become more confident, comfortable and display excellent menstrual hygiene management skills during menstruation and be able to transfer these skills to help other girls with the menstrual hygiene knowledge gap.”

Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management at a global level.
