It was more than guests and dignitaries expected at the launch of Season 4 of Corruption Tori, an anti-corruption television program, supported by MacArthur Foundation and produced by Signature Television, in Abuja on Thursday.

The event, which was the fourth in the series of seasons of the program, attracted members of the national assembly, anti-corruption agencies, education supervisors, non-governmental organizations, secondary should children, and the media.

It was the school children, that provoked the most reasons to query how well the war against corruption was fairing in the country.

In a debate by students of government junior secondary school Mpape, the children listed the evils of corruption, telling their leaders that it was more than insecurity because it destroys today and tomorrow, the present and the future.

In a drama by Bellanadia Secondary School, Abuja, the children mocked Nigeria’s anti-corruption debate and fight as producing chaos and confusion.

The special guest at the launch, Hon. Dennis Agbo, a member of the House of Representatives, however, reassured the children that all hope is not lost. He commended MacArthur Foundation and Signature Television for sustaining the engagement of the young minds in the fight against corruption.

After unveiling the Corruption Tori season four plaque, Agbo told guests at the event that there are some Nigerians who have chosen the path of honor.

He told the children that there is no profit from corruption, which hard work and diligence cannot achieve.

One of the guests, rtd AIG Charles Ugomuoh, admitted that corruption was a major national challenge. He was particularly worried that the challenge is manifesting even in the security institutions and reminded them that the consequence of corruption in the security institutions has a more destructive effect on the nation than elsewhere.

VinMartin Obiora Ilo, Chief executive officer of Signature Communication Ltd, producers of Corruption Tori, said that the theme of each season is selected to recruit more Nigerians into the war against corruption.

He said that the theme of Season 4, “Make You no Taya for the fight against Corruption, We go win am”, encourages Nigerians to persevere and remain committed to ending the menace of corruption in all spheres of national life. He assured that with the capacity-building training and support from MacArthur Foundation in the last five years, Signature Communications was poised and better positioned to continue the anti corruption project beyond the conclusion of MacArthur’s funding.

Ilo urged other organisations and Foundation’s operating in Nigeria, to emulate MacArthur Foundation in their intentional approach and strategy, towards fighting corruption in the country.
