NLC Two-Day Strike Action: Sit At Home Order Records Partial Compliance
There was a partial compliance to the two-day sit at home order by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) across the country as the union began its nationwide strike action on Tuesday.
A visit to some of the ministries in Nigeria’s capital Abuja showed that some workers complied with the order while some defiled the directive.
This can be attributed to the fact that the sister agency, Trade Union Congress had in a meeting with the minster of Labour and employment gave the federal government two weeks ultimatum to meet the demands of the organized labour unions in Nigeria.

The labour unions had expressed worry that the removal of petrol subsidy has brought untold hardship on Nigerians, demanding the federal government to increase the minimum wage, review the current palliative given to states amongst others.
In resolving the issue, the minister who just assumed office recently, had extended an invitation to the organized labour unions. Trade Union Congress honoured the invitation while the Nigeria Labour Congress turned it down.
According to the minister, continuous strike actions will only cripple the gains made by the government in recent times.
The TUC president while calling for a review of the palliatives urged the government to put up a monitoring team to oversee the distribution as interests may hijack the funds.
Many Nigerians will be hoping that in the coming weeks, the federal government will roll out more support system to help cushion the hardship been faced by the Nigerian workers.
