EBONYI: GUN MEN HOLD SWAY, KILL COUNSELLOR, YOUTH LEADER, ATTACK POLICE DIVISION

Two attacks by unknown gunmen in, Ebonyi State Tuesday, left two people dead in the volatile Isu community and  vehicles burnt in Ezzamgbo where a Police Division was attacked.

 

In  Isu, Stanley Nweze, a Councillor and a youth leader, Arinze Ugochukwu, were gunned down while returning  to Isu on a motorbike according to eye witnesses.

 

Mr Nweze, until his death, was the councillor representing Enuagu ward in the Onicha Legislative Council, while Mr Ugochukwu was the coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria in the Onicha Local Government Area chapter.

 

The gunmen were said to have fired sporadic shots into the air to scare away passers-by before zooming off into the nearby forest.

 

In Ezzamgbo, in the Ohaukwu LGA, armed men attacked a Police Division.

 

The gunmen, who arrived on a bus, started shooting sporadically causing panic in the community.

No casualties were recorded as policemen on duty fought back, chasing away the attackers according to the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu.

 

He stated that police operatives on ground repelled the attack though a vehicle and motorcycle were set ablaze by the fleeing gunmen.

 

He added that the police are on the trail of the attackers as investigations are ongoing to unravel the cause of the attack.
