President Bola Tinubu has directed the Finance Minister, Wale Edun, to present a template for a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday after a Federal Government delegation on the new minimum wage met with the President.
Idris said the President directed the Minister to work out the figures and get back to him by Wednesday so that government can have the figures ready for negotiations with Labour.
The President he said is determined to go with what the committee has set while at the same time looking at the welfare of Nigerians.
Idris said the government is not an opponent of labour or wage increase.
Apart from Idris and Edun, others in the FG delegation include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Labour Minister, Nkiruka Onyejeocha; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari.
