In the month of July 2026, Abuja, Nigeria’s showpiece of a city on the hills and sprawling plains, was added to the nation’s list of flood- ravaged urban centers.
In a fit of righteous anger, the FCT minister Nyesom Wike promised to bring down every structure that has been constructed on flood plains and water channels no matter who would be affected.
As Abuja residents wait for the minister to make good his threat, they raise the fundamental question: who and what is responsible for the Abuja floods?
