ACTIVITIES GROUNDED IN ABUJA AS RESIDENTS PROTEST AGAINST HARDSHIP

Activities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja was grounded in Thursday as residents joined other Nigerians in a nationwide protest. 
 
The EndBadGovernance protest arose due to the hardship and hunger facing  the citizens and alleged reckless spending by government officials.
 
At the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, protesters converged as early as 6 am to begin their protests with the Nigerian Police Force and other Security agencies  fully on ground.
 
The Commissioner of Police Bennet Igweh, told newsmen that a court order limited the protest to within the Moshood Abiola stadium. Earlier he said the protesters have been given three hours to vacate the road and enter the stadium as stipulated in the court order. 
 
Another set of protesters believed to be  government supporters came to the venue apparently to frustrate the protest urging the demonstrators to give the Tinubu administration more time to solve the problems confronting the nation.
 
There was also heavy security presence at the Federal Secretariat and the three arms zone of the federal capital territory with military personnel strategically positioned at various points. 
 
The citizens with different placards decried the rise in the prices of food stuff and other household items, the rise in the exchange rate of the naira against the dollar, the hike in electricity tariff, and the alleged reckless spending by Nigeria’s lawmakers whom they say earn more than any other lawmakers around the world. 
 
The citizens are demanding that the government should attend to their needs before they can back down on the protest.
 
The EndBadGovernance nationwide protest which commenced on August first is expected to last for ten days.
