African Economic Leaders Converge in Abuja to Chart Path Through Global Uncertainty
Top policymakers, central bankers and business leaders from across the continent have converged on Abuja for the seventh African Emerging Markets Forum, where they are exploring strategies to strengthen Africa’s economies against mounting global economic uncertainties.
The high-level forum, holding at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has drawn key government officials, financial experts and private sector stakeholders from across Africa.
Among those attending are the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Oluyemi Cardoso; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji. The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is also expected to participate.
With the theme, “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” the forum is focusing on practical solutions to help African economies navigate global market volatility while deepening investment, financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth.
Participants are exchanging ideas on strengthening fiscal and monetary policies, improving macroeconomic resilience and positioning African economies to take advantage of emerging global opportunities despite prevailing economic headwinds.
In his welcome address, the CBN Deputy Governor for Corporate Services, Muhammad Abdullahi, acknowledged the growing pressure global economic disruptions have placed on emerging markets. However, he said the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape also presents an opportunity for African countries to implement stronger fiscal and monetary policies capable of driving long-term economic resilience and sustainable growth.
