Al-Muhibbah University Collaborates with INEC, Political Parties on Good Governance

In an effort to help grow Nigeria’s democratic culture, Nigeria ‘s first private open university, Al-Muhibbah university, has introduced a new course in its department of international relations.

The course, Advancement of Democracy, Election and Good Governance is compulsory for all students of the institution.

At an interaction with the media in Abuja on Thursday the deputy vice chancellor of the university, Prof Ahmed Salisu said the course is the institution’s contribution to the development and of the democratic process in Nigeria.

He said the university will collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders in deepening the content of the course in a gown and community relationship.

According to Salisu, the purpose is to develop research, contribute to policy and give students opportunities to participate as an election observers during election.

The Director of Strategic Planning of the university, Professor Mukthar Imam, said the aim is to make democracy the business of everybody and to ensure its entrenchment in Nigeria.

It is also to deepen democratic practices and checkmate the involvement and participation of the mediocre in high political positions.

Members of the academia, non-governmental organizations and representatives of some political parties were at the event.
