Barely one day after directing communities to establish food markets outside their main markets, Anambra State Government has ordered a reversal of the directive.
The Commissioner of Information and Public Enlightenment, C. Don Adinuba said on Wednesday morning that reversal of the directive became necessary because the new food markets negated social distancing being propagated by the government to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
Adinuba said the government discovered that the new areas chosen by the various communities for food markets were by far smaller than their main markets and so observing social distancing was impossible.
However, he said that only food items should be sold in the markets.
Also, a statement quoting Governor Willie Obiano on Wednesday directed all markets to open.
Part of the statement read: “I am directed to inform you that the Executive Governor of Anambra State has directed that all markets to be re-opened.
“All the closed food stuff market in all the LGAs be re-opened with immediate effect.
