ANAMBRA HOUSE SPEAKER CAUTIONS AGAINST UNDUE EMPHASIS ON SEPERATION OF POWERS

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, has identified too much insistence on the theory of separation of powers among the three arms of government as a source of acrimony hampering the provision democracy dividends to the people.

He said a harmonious relationship between the legislature and executive was one sure way of bringing about the much needed development, insisting that fighting with the executive arm will not serve any useful purpose.

The speaker who was addressing the press on the one year of the 8th Assembly of Anambra state, attributed the modest achievements recorded by the house to the rapport existing between the legislature and the executive.

He said the house passed 11 bills out of the twenty-one submitted to it and introduced some reforms to enhance their Legislative Business such as series of trainings for legislators, commencement of House Sitting by ten o’clock in the morning, introduction of every Tuesday morning prayer, improved staff relations among others.

Some of the Bills passed he said include the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission Bill, Revenue Administration, Consolidation and Harmonization Bill, Anambra State Touting Prohibition Bill,2024 Appropriation Bill, Health Facilities Monitoring And Accreditation Agency Bill, Anambra State Peace Building And Conflict Management Agency Bill and Anambra State House of Assembly Service Commission Amendment Bill among others.
