The Association of Resident Doctors at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital has suspended the ongoing 7-day warning strike it embarked upon on September 11 and directed members to return to their duty on Saturday.

This is contained in a Communique signed by President of the branch, Dr Joy Okwumuo and Secretary, Dr Chukwubuike Ifekudu and made available to journalists on Saturday.

The association said the decision to suspend the strike followed the approval of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for release of the Medical Residency Training Fund and 100 percent upward review of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure and allowances for house officers and rural posting for previously skipped departments.

This it said followed a series of meetings with stakeholders including the Anambra State government, Hospital management and Nigeria Medical Association leadership in the state.

The association however said it shall continue to advocate for immediate recruitment of resident doctors including house officers to meet the recommended number by medical colleges in each department and close the brain drain gap.
