Anambra State Housing Development Corporation Marks World Habitat Day
The Anambra State Housing Development Corporation marked World Habitat Day on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at their office annex at Aroma Awka.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chike Anyaonu in his address stressed the need for developers to consider having catchment pits in their compounds. According to him, this will enable control of excessive flooding, and reduce the existential threat of erosion that ravages our environment.
He acknowledged the efforts of the state government in creating necessary awareness to residents. This awareness, he said, if it couldn’t command compliance the government will have no choice than to enforce total compliance. He equally encouraged Ndi Anambra to ensure they are conversant and working with the state housing policies.
The Commissioner for Environment, Engr Felix Odimegwu, in his remark stated that the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Housing will always work together to ensure that urbanization doesn’t constitute risk or impending disaster but shall be utilized positively to the advantage of the state and its people.
He further advised Ndi Anambra to cultivate the culture of tree planting, proper waste disposal, using eco-friendly transportation, proper plastic recycling sustainability and encouraging community engagement/participation.
Other stakeholders at the event also encouraged holistic government supervision and involvement in matters that concern housing in the state.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Pauly Onyeka, equally extolled the Governor for his dedication towards delivering the Solution FunCity Project Awka which according to him will boost the economy and tourism in the state.
