Benue 2023: Akase meets community pharmacists

One of the 2023 governorship aspirants in Benue State, Mr. Terver Akase Thursday met with the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) at its state chapter award ceremony held in Makurdi, the state capital.

During the interaction, the immediate past Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom hailed the central role pharmacists play in healthcare service delivery in the state, pointing out that without them as professionals, the medical practice would not be successful.

He noted that his desire is to collaborate with professionals with an intention to set up medical consumables factories that will attract an inflow of funds into the State if he emerges as Benue Governor in 2023.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 governorship hopeful, expressed optimism about the establishment of a Department of Pharmacy at the Benue State University, saying such a department will further boost the potentials of the State and increase manpower training for the health sector.

According to Akase, if given the opportunity to govern the state, he would accord priority to the people’s medical needs by building more primary health centres in many parts of the state.

He decried the infiltration of quacks into various noble professions and urged the ACPN to combat the menace in the pharmacy practice.

Earlier in a remark, State Chairman of the Association, Pharmacist Nonye Ezim-Ochi stated that as a technical group of professionals, they were committed to tackling the proliferation of substandard and counterfeit drugs, stressing that the health of the people is wealth and must not be endangered by the activities of counterfeiters.
