Bonny LGA in Rivers gets female council boss

Former Vice Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dame Anengi Barasua has been sworn-in as the new Chairman of the Local Government.

This follows the death of the former LG Chairman, David Irimagha in September.

Barasua was sworn in on Thursday by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike while performing the swearing-in ceremony expressed shock over the death of Irimagha whom he said was a very strong supporter of Bonny LGA.

He urged the new council chairman to continue with the laudable projects aimed at improving the well-being of the people of Bonny that were initiated by her predecessor.

In his words “Go ahead, continue with the projects he started and even initiate new ones.

“It is an opportunity for you to showcase your leadership. There is nothing stopping a woman from ascending to the highest position. You never can tell what other opportunities will come if you perform better.

“I have never heard of the political crisis in Bonny in terms of leadership, I don’t want to also hear of it. Keep the place together. Work with the leadership,” he said.

On her part, the newly sworn-in council chairman promised to adhere to the vision of her predecessor.
