Breaking: Emir of Zazzau is Dead

The Emir of Zazzau in Zaria,Kaduna State, Shehu Idris, has passed on. He died on Sunday at the age of 84.

Alh. Idris died at the Army 44 Reference Hospital in Kaduna after a short admission, according to palace sources.

Until his death, the Emir was the 18th Emir of Zazzau and the Chairman of the Zazzau Emirate Council.

The monarch spent 45 years on the throne having ascended to the throne in 1975 at the age of 36.

Kaduna state commissioner for home affairs and internal security, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the death to reporters.

Also confirming his death, the Personal Assistant to the President, Bashir Ahmad tweeted, “The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Idris died at the age of 84, he had been on the throne for over 40 years. May Allah (SWA) forgive all his shortcomings and grant him Jannah al-Firdaus.”
