Breaking: Governor Ugwuanyi intervenes in Ishi Ozalla crisis
People of Edeani Agu comprising eight villages in Ishi Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State on Thursday protested being ostracized by some stakeholders in Ishi Ozalla.
The community staged a peaceful protest within Enugu capital, including Enugu State House of Assembly and Government House, where Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi addressed them in a closed-door meeting.
At the Enugu State House of Assembly, Chief Eberechukwu Okoye called on Enugu State House of Assembly to wade into the crisis in their community.
She informed the House that Edeani people are facing molestation, and humiliation in the hands of those who purportedly ostracised them.
She declared: “If we do not agitate about those who declared us ostracised now, in the next thirty years we may not know what they will be calling our children.”
Chief Okoye narrated the experience of Edeani Agu people in the village, explaining that they have been ordered not to interact with the rest of the community.
They have also been banned from fetching water from the village stream. No business transactions between them and other members of the community. and even in the village meetings, their people are not allowed to attend.
According to the demands, handed over to the Enugu State House of Assembly and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Edeani Agu people are calling for a stop to the election into the Igweship stool pending the resolution of every crisis in the community.
They also want every form of ostracism to stop, and every indigene of Ishiozalla from 18years above should be allowed to vote and be voted for during the Igweship election.
They asked that intimidation of the youths and the elders using the security agencies should stop.
The Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly represented by Hon. Udenta Udeani commended the people for their peaceful approach to resolving the community crisis.
Hon. Udenta said that the Enugu State House of Assembly will explore constitutional means and intervene as a house.
He promised to deliver their demands to the Speaker and ensure that Enugu State house of Assembly discusses the development.
Government House sources told Signature TV that the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has ordered officials of the state government to convene a meeting between the aggrieved Edeani-agu people and the rest of Ishiozalla clan to resolve all issues in contention.
